The issues you see in the news may feel far away from your own life, or simply not relevant. Or maybe you feel there’s nothing you can do. But your vote does matter.
In a democracy, this is how change happens. It’s how we perfect our evolving Union. But closer to home, your vote forms the threads of the fabric of our community.
Here are three reasons to vote in every election – not just the “big” ones.
Quality of Life

Many things that touch you daily are determined directly or indirectly through elections. Do you or your family use city or county parks and sports? What about the quality of the roads you take to get there, or to work? Are the curriculum and books used in schools and libraries important to the education of your children or grandchildren? Every day we count on the availability of clean water and reliable power. Funding and policies for police and fire departments determine what happens if you call 911. And we all want fair treatment in our courts, even if its for a traffic ticket. And, of course, we pay for our common good with taxes that we want to be used prudently. Are you willing to allow others to determine what happens in your own neighborhood? YOUR VOTE MATTERS!
Elections Can Be Close
Many candidates win with only razor-thin margins. For example, in 2019, Progressive incumbent Heather Jefts, on the Cedar Park City Council, lost her re-election by just 2 votes. YOUR VOTE MATTERS!

Votes Communicate Community Values

The number of votes for a particular candidate or issue is a meaningful way to inform our leaders what we think and how we feel. Not only does this influence those leaders, regardless of whether our candidates won or lost, but our neighbors’ perspectives are also influenced when they see how many people feel a certain way. YOUR VOTE MATTERS!
